Definition of Youth:- (SSYG) In the concept of Self Help Youth Group, youth means a young man or woman belonging to Scheduled Caste or underprivileged/weak sections and has attained the age of 18 years.

A Self Help Youth Group shall be an organized group which strives to achieve common goals and objectives and works for the overall development of the community.

A youth group will be formed by gathering at least 11-15 youths from scheduled castes and reserved communities who are willing and ready to work as volunteers in rural areas through samatatadut.

This youth group is a youth group in a village. The main objectives of the youth group will be to do developmental work for the Scheduled Caste people through it with special focus on self development and empowerment of the participating youth.

To make a well-functioning self-help group person with confident leadership qualities as a coordinator to form other youth groups through him.

To give benefit of all government schemes to such self help youth groups to develop clusters. Guidance for business start-up loans. E.g. Small scale industries, cottage industries, bakeries etc. To give inspiration for the cluster and to increase the productivity and entrepreneurship among the Scheduled Caste youth by providing necessary support. Creating entrepreneurs, not working class.

To establish a Self Help Youth Group in every Scheduled Caste and Disadvantaged Community Settlement / Village.

Criteria for Selection of Members of Self Help Youth Group:

• Should be a citizen of Maharashtra state.
• The youth center should have more than 80% members from scheduled castes and 20% members from other disadvantaged or weaker sections on the lines of Ramai Mahila Empowerment Yojana.
• Age group 18 to 45
• Education should be at least 10th pass.
• Should be a permanent resident of the village/town.
• Should be interested in social work.
• A volunteer should be doing unpaid work voluntarily.
• Industry should be willing to do business.
• The concerned youth should not be affiliated with any political party.
• Anu. Should be willing to work in a spirit of social service for the citizens of caste and other communities. Self-help groups, cooperative societies, anganwadi workers, helpers, etc. They will be given preference as per the eligibility criteria.
• There should be readiness to train others in this regard by taking training in government schemes.

Scope:
Self-help youth groups are being formed of youths at village, taluka, district level in Maharashtra state.
